Environmental Management & Compliance

At Forbes Bros. Group of Companies, environmental management is integrated into how we plan and deliver projects. Environmental considerations are addressed early and remain a core focus throughout design, construction, and completion.

Our scope spans the full project footprint, including access, soils, wildlife habitat, wetlands, water crossings, and vegetation management. From planning through final reclamation, our team applies regulatory expertise, field experience, and accountability to meet requirements and uphold environmental commitments at every stage.

Our approach to environmental management includes:

  • ECI / EPC Integration: Early contractor involvement integrates environmental constraints into project design, prioritizing avoidance of impacts, applying mitigation where needed, and restoring disturbed areas after construction.
  • GIS & Spatial Analysis: GIS tools and spatial analysis are used to identify environmental features, evaluate routing options, and support access planning from early project development through construction.
  • Permitting & Approvals: Our team manages permitting and approvals from early identification through project close-out, coordinating with regulators and maintaining compliance documentation for all environmental obligations.
  • Access Planning: We plan right-of-way and temporary access routes to minimize disturbance, using early identification of sensitive terrain, low-lying areas, and ecological features to inform routing and construction planning.
  • Wildlife Management: We conduct baseline assessments, including habitat mapping, and seasonal constraint identification to schedule construction windows around breeding and migration, with ongoing monitoring and regulatory coordination to minimize disturbance to sensitive species.
  • Surface Water Protection: We identify features like rivers, creeks, and wetlands during early planning and implementing appropriate buffers, mitigation, and erosion control measures to protect water quality and aquatic habitat during construction.
  • Design and Construction Approaches: We evaluate structure locations, span lengths, and access requirements to minimize disturbance to sensitive areas, selecting foundation types and construction methods, such as helical piles or helicopter support, based on site conditions to reduce environmental impact.
  • Project Close Out: We restore disturbed areas and fulfill all environmental commitments through reclamation planning, soil handling, site restoration, and post-construction monitoring. Disturbed sites are then revegetated with appropriate seed mixes to support long-term recovery consistent with surrounding land use.

“The safety culture at Forbes is unique”

Each and every person who works here believes in and supports our safety program. Not because they feel that they have to, but rather because they believe in it and feel/see the value in safety success. I know that my coworkers are looking out for me and vice versa.

“I would like to express my gratitude towards your company on completing your scope on the Pembina rail project on time and on budget”

Specifically, I want to mention that Forbes did not have any safety incidents on this project and that is rare. Considering the number of light poles Forbes installed (ground disturbance), fixtures/line installations (climbing poles) and working within a live rail yard (congested area) with numerous lines crossing live tracks. I’m pleased with the efforts from your company and I would refer Forbes to any company requiring your services.
